Steaks, along with black coffee, entire pies, and eau de lawnmower, are an essential part of the 1950s Tough Gent’s Diet Plan. Savor their flavor in an appropriately outdoorsy setting with today’s Groupon: for $20, you get $40 worth of steak, seafood, and drinks at Lord Fletcher’s Old Lake Lodge in Spring Park.
Nestled along beautiful Lake Minnetonka, Lord Fletcher’s Old Lake Lodge has been serving the gastronomical checkmate of surf ‘n’ turf from its kitchen since 1968. Make a jumbo lump crab cake with preserved lemon tartar ($13) the first stop on the menu‘s culinary pleasure cruise—or if you’re feeling childlike, the lamb “lollipop,” a succulent treat rubbed with curry, greek yogurt, and honey ($12). Small plates of lobster mac ‘n’ cheese ($17) or the southern-fried turkey dinner ($18) can appease the merely peckish, and twin 3-ounce tournedos atop toasted brioche with béarnaise and bordelaise ($31) deliver a mighty double-blow to hunger. Otherwise, add a half-pound of Alaskan king-crab legs ($9) to the 6-ounce seared center-cut filet mignon ($30) and combine them into an edible face-hugger. All dinner entrees come with two signature sides, including kosher crusted baked potato, jasmine rice, creamed spinach, and freshly hatched broccolini.
With scenic lakeside views, the lodge’s warm wood paneling, elegant artwork, and homey stone hearth complete with roaring fire make for a cozy, relaxed dining environment, whether you’re wearing a T-shirt, a ball gown, or a vintage 19th-century diving suit.
